Scams & Safety

There are plenty of facebook pages who say, list certain products on our personal profile market place, refer the customer to our page and we are paid 1000 AUD weekly, is that true or it's a scam?

Facebook Marketplace Money-Making Scheme - Scam Alert

Is This a Scam? Yes, Almost Certainly

These Facebook pages offering easy money ($1000+ weekly) for listing products are classic scams. Here's why:

Red Flags

  • Too easy, too much money: Legitimate work requires real effort and skills. Easy $1000/week offers are unrealistic
  • No clear business model: How does the company make money if they're paying you just to list products? It doesn't add up
  • Upfront costs: Many scams ask you to pay a "registration fee," "starter kit," or "training fee" first. You never see that money again
  • Vague job descriptions: They won't clearly explain what you're actually doing
  • Pressure to recruit others: If they push you to recruit friends/family, it's likely a pyramid scheme

What Usually Happens

  • You're asked to pay money upfront (often $50-$500)
  • You receive fake products or instructions to list counterfeit items
  • You never receive promised payments
  • Your personal information is stolen for identity fraud
  • You may be used to scam others

Protect Yourself

  • Never pay upfront for work or "opportunities"
  • Research the company: Check Australian Consumer Law warnings and ACCC reports
  • Legitimate jobs don't recruit via Facebook ads with unrealistic promises
  • Trust your instincts: If it sounds too good to be true, it is
  • Report it: Report the page to Facebook and the ACCC

If You've Already Been Scammed

  • Report to ACCC (Australian Consumer & Competition Commission): scamwatch.gov.au
  • Report to Australian Cyber Security Centre: cyber.gov.au/report
  • Contact your bank immediately if money was transferred
  • Report to Facebook/Meta

Legitimate Work in Australia

Real jobs require:

  • Clear job descriptions and employer details
  • No upfront payments from you
  • Fair pay for fair work (check fairwork.gov.au for minimum wages)
  • Proper contracts and tax information
